14TH RED POLL WORLD CONGRESS AND TOUR - AUSTRALIA, 2014

As president of the Australian Red Poll Cattle Breeders Inc I had the pleasure of hosting Red Poll breeders from Canada, Jamaica, UK, USA, New Zealand and Kenya to Australia from the 21st October 2014 for three weeks.

We travel across the continent from W.A. to S.A. Vic., N.S.W. and ended on the Gold Coast. At Albury we held a most impressive conference. Kay and I enjoyed interacting with all these lovely people in the photograph which was taken fittingly looking over the parliament in Canberra. This tour took much effort to organize by our dedicated committee of Mark Harris, Murray Williams, Ian Coghlan, Jill Bockman and our secretary, Keryn Hutton. The tour diary with photographs is available on the ARPCBI website.

ADELAIDE HEIFER EXPO, JULY 2015

Briony Looker, Tiana Poulton, Damon Sims, Cassie Poulton

Moyle Park again sponsored the Red Poll Youth Ambassador.

Briony Looker from Armidale, NSW, was selected by the Federal Executive to represent the Red Poll breed a Adelaide and she did a brilliant job. We also provided heifers to Damon Sims from Tasmania and Cassie and Tiana Poulton from Booleroo. Our team of four aquited themselves very well.

SHOWS

We again attended Crystal Brook, Adelaide, Melrose and Jamestown shows.

Annabel Ritchie, pictured, who has been helping us for many years for which we are very grateful, Cassie and Tiana Poulton and their mothers have called themselves “TEAM DALEY” and they really are very formidable. It has added another dimension to showing have a dedicated group of supporters around.

FIELD DAY

Our 2015 field day was very successful.

John Stockham from Harrogate in the Adelaide Hills bought 4 older cows with female calves at foot in calf again to form Regalar Red Poll Stud. We have had contact with him and he now has calves on the ground. This coming year our field day will be on the first Wednesday in February. As usual ther will be bulls and females available but we welcome anyone who would like to view our herd.

UPDATE: BEEF 2012 - ROCKHAMPTON.

Kay and I attended BEEF 2012 at Rockhampton, where the Australian Red Poll Cattle Breeders had a display of cattle provided by Jill Brockman and Albert Haandcock that drew great interest from Brahman breeders - all looking to increase fertility, eating qualities and polledness.

Jill had brought Moyle Park Zepplin along and he was a great drawcard, at 1037KG at four and a half and, according to Jill, in his paddock clothes.

We spent 2 days on this site talking with the northern cattlemen. I also attended the pre show conference on biogenetics and during the show the MLA’S seminar. This has been the second event we have attended at Rockhampton enjoying the interaction with other cattle breeders an beef scientist.

RED POLL WORLD CONGRESS - May to June 2011

This was held in the UK from 28th May until 15th June and was attended by Kay and Richard. As the federal president I delivered the Australian report at the conference. Our UK fellow breeders turned on a fabulous tour that encompassed grand estates and stately homes, the origin of Red Poll, a visit to HRH the Queen's estate at Sandringham (she is the patron of Red Poll in England) and a great cross section of Red Poll Cattle.

Alan Wilson of Oakwood Red Poll Stud in South Australia was the judge at the Suffolk show, where Red Polls form a trinity of native breeds of the area with the Suffolk Dun Horse and the Suffolk Sheep. Below are a few images of the trip - just some of many great memories!

AUGUST 2011

Tim Light, the Red Poll Cattle Breeders Youth Award winner, attended the SA HEIFER EXPO with Moyle Park Merry, where he got a 5th in the handler class and aquitted himself very well in the senior herdsman event.

Tim flew in on the Saturday before the show and we picked him up at the airport and gave him a cooks tour back to Jamestown. It was the first time he had been to the southern states as he lives at Armidale,NSW. Tim is a very keen young catleman and it was a pleasure to host him. We are lucky to have quite a number of young members in our breed now that demonstrate the same enthusiasm as Tim and I expect him to do well in the future.

LATEST RED POLL ADVERTISMENT - FOLLOWING THE 2010 ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW
ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW RESULTS

Moyle Park was the most successful exhibitor at the 2010 Royal Adelaide Show.

Schools supported by Moyle Park also had strong performances in the Royal Adelaide Show's carcase competition.

Burra High School competed in the Heavy Domestic Class, their carcase scoring 82.01 points, compared to the Grand Champion Red Poll carcase's 89.34 points. At 13 months, Burra's steer weighed in at 440kg.

Booleroo High School was also entered in the Heavy Domestic Class, scoring 81.7 points with an animal 15 months old and 530kg.
Booleroo High also entered in the Export Class and scored 75 points, weighing in at 560kg at 15 months old.

These Steers were selected for Light Domestic and Heavy Domestic classes. Unfortunately for the competition - but not for the steers - they put on too much weight to qualify and moved to Heavy and Export class, which compromised their fat coverage. However, Moyle Park was extremely pleased with the performance of their animals as it is showing their performance characteristics has produced these extremely 'growthy' animals.

2009 ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW CARCASE COMPETITION

Moyle Park didn't enjoy the successes of 2008, although their two steers exhibited by Booleroo and Burra High Schools were exceptionally well prepared once again, scoring 83.623 and 81.485 points, respectively.

This compares well to the overall field of 64, where the highest scoring carcase scored 89.618 points.

At the 2009 Royal Adelaide Show, Moyle Park exhibited:

- Grand Champion Bull (Moyle Park Zepplin)

2009 BEEF WEEK - ROCKHAMPTON, QUEENSLAND
A visit to Beef Week at Rockhamption, Qld., suggested great opportunities for the Red Poll breed.

The naturally polled cattle could play a vital role with commercial breeders seeking an answer to de-horning issues as well as fertility.

  2009 SA BEEF FIELD DAYS
Held under adverse conditions of more than 43 degrees C, the day was well above expectations with more visitors than usual and a bull – moyle park zoom by moyle park Zulu – was sold to Mr. Merv Lewis from Pt. Pirie by 8AM for $2400.00.

The three-quarter brother of Moyle Park Zoom will be weaned on the 24th of February 2009 and will be retained in the stud.
